Peking to Paris

In 2013 Tony Smyth took on the Peking to Paris Rally to raise much needed funding for the children of Goedgedacht. He didn’t just do this for the thrill of the adventure, he set out to raise half a million rand for Goedgedacht’s Path out of Poverty programme. Goedgedacht approached Africa@Heart to help develop the marketing materials needed to help Tony reach his goal. Key to the success of the campaign was an interactive website that allowed individuals to track Tony’s progress as well as to showcase how the fundraising efforts were advancing. To help Tony reach his R500 000 goal, individuals were encouraged to purchase an olive tree, for each olive tree purchased Tony’s “digital” journey to Paris advanced on an interactive map. While we didn’t quite get tony to Paris digitally he did complete this amazing Race and managed to reach his R500 000 target through the purchase of over 1000 olive trees and other kind donations.
